- Make blankets from new, clean, washable materials in infant, child or teen friendly colors. Remember, these blankets are meant to be colorful, cheerful and cuddly.
- Do not use
material that is faded even if it is new
- Provide
your name and address with your blanket
- We
always have a greater need for boys’ blankets, especially teen boys.
Fleece
- Only use
fleece that is 100% polyester or non-pill
- Single
layer only. Double layers are too bulky
for the hospitals to store
- We prefer
skip stitch fleece blankets with crochet edge or “floppy ears” ties
- Please
remove selvages to include the slightly folded edge to give it a clean look
- Width of
ties must be consistent in size
Quilts
- Use 100%
cotton or flannel, kid friendly fabric
- Please use
appropriate fabric for size of blanket e.g. don’t use baby fabric on a quilt
that is teen size
- Please
remove selvages to give it a clean look
- Twin size
quilts should be appealing to older kids (both girls and boys)
Knitted
and Crocheted Afghans
- Use soft
100% acrylic yarn – no wool due to allergies
- Use small
needles or hooks and soft baby yarn for baby afghans. Little fingers and toes
can get caught into large, loose, loopy holes
Approximate
size guidelines:
Baby – minimum 40” x 40” or 36” x 36” for
receiving blankets
Child – 40” to 45” x 60”
Teen
– 40” to 45” x 72”
Twin size – 66” x 90”
